How to choose doors for an apartment where every centimeter counts
When renovating an apartment or furnishing a new build, we often face the same problem: which way should the doors open so they don't get in the way?
When renovating an apartment or furnishing a new build, we often face the same problem: which way should the doors open so they don’t get in the way? Classic swing doors need approximately 1 m² of free space to operate. If you are struggling with space in a narrow hallway, a small bathroom, or a walk-in closet, the solution is sliding doors.
At DOORNITE, we offer three basic variants. Each has its advantages and is suitable for different situations.
- Wall-mounted sliding doors: A quick change without demolition
This solution is ideal if you already have finished floors and plaster and do not want to undertake major structural modifications. The door leaf moves along a track closely against the wall.
- Installation: It is very simple and clean. The track is hidden under an elegant pelmet in the same decor as the door.
- What to look out for: The wall along which the door slides must remain clear. You cannot place a wardrobe in front of it or install a light switch there.
- ALU sliding system: A design element for modern style lovers
Are you looking for a solution that serves as a prominent design feature in your interior? Choose our ALU sliding system. Here, the track is not hidden under a pelmet, but instead stands out as a modern visual accessory.
- Appearance: You can choose between matte silver aluminum for a subtler look or matte black, which stands out perfectly in modern and industrial-style interiors.
- Suitable for: An ideal choice for those who want to make the sliding door a focal point of the room and are not looking for a traditional hidden mechanism.
- Pocket sliding doors: Maximum space saving
If you are just building or planning a major renovation with the construction of drywall partitions, opt for a building pocket. When opened, the door literally “disappears” into a pocket inside the wall.
- Space utilization: This is the absolute winner in space saving. The wall on both sides remains free for furniture or decorations.
- Aesthetics: Pocket sliding doors look very modern and clean. When closed, they look like classic doors; when open, you don’t even know they’re there.
What about noise and sealing?
A common question is whether sliding doors let in more noise or odors (for example, from the kitchen). It is true that they do not seal as well as rebated doors, but for normal household operation, the difference is minimal. Furthermore, with DOORNITE sliding systems, we use high-quality rollers that ensure quiet and smooth operation – no banging or squeaking.
Which model should you choose?
The good news is that almost all our models can be produced as sliding doors. Whether you prefer solid flush doors or glazed variants, we can adapt them for a sliding system.
